A Winged Victory for the Sullen (by Asa Medhurst)
Created for the Wing Assignment 2012
Whilst painting this I thinking about Wings as a symbol for both life and death, finality & transcendence etc.
I remembered I had tickets for a band I didn’t know the next night. I dropped the tickets in front of the painting and stared at their name. ‘A Winged Victory for the Sullen’. Serendipity and a name for my piece.
And the gig was a moment of pure beauty.
